The Gamer by Kevin Johnstone Views: 165
Unless a man has chewed tobacco like the big boys and yacked repeatedly
because of it; has aggravated muscle after muscle from giving it his
all; has given his arm the hot/ cold treatment faithfully for six weeks
so it wouldn't be hanging when the 40th game rolled around; has gotten
blood blisters on his hands that eventually turned into permanent
calluses from spending hours in the batting cage while the rest of his
friends are out partying; has gotten hit by an 87 mile per hour
fastball so he can get on base and hopefully score; has sacrificed his
body os the third out was sure to be made; has acceted being known as
the "arrogant asshole" to others because of his love for the sport; has
maintained his composure aftger striking out knowing that even the best
hitters fail 7 out of ten times; has had aching strawberries on his
knees for the entire season from aggressively sliding into the bases;
has sent hour after countless hour lifting weights so he can rise to the
occasion when it is his time to perform; has kept complete and total
concentration thought out the entire 27 outs, 9 innings of the
game-unless a man has done these things then he hasn't expereienced
playing the game of baseball. Many eople think that baseball doesn't
take skill, but most of them don't know that baseball is 10% physical
and 90% mental. Only the mentally inclined survive in this sport and
there are only a certain few that are physcially capable of playing the
game effectively. We are the lucky ones and for those who play...We
salute you.
